State data says Greenville OK’d 89 housing units, but the reality isn’t close
A town of fewer than 1,700 people on the edge of Moosehead Lake at first glance appears to be approving more housing per capita than most other communities in the state. The State of Maine Housing Data Portal shows Greenville in Piscataquis County approved building permits for 89 housing units in 2025. That’s 53 new homes per 1,000 residents, and nearly triple the number that Bangor approved last year.
