The Story of the Declaration of Independence

On Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. the Milford Museum will begin its American History Series at the Milford Public Library with a program about one of America’s most treasured documents, The Declaration of Independence. Local historian Dan Pritchett will present the background of how and why this famous document was created during a critical time of the American Revolution. Included in this program will be information about the men who gathered in Philadelphia to discuss America’s move to independence and how, in signing this document, they risked “our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” While its role in the American Revolution is well known, The Declaration of Independence document itself has a fascinating history which will be included in the program.

Daniel Pritchett has been teaching American history in Delaware since 1969: 34 years in the Capital School District, six years at Delaware State University, and numerous years at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
