Dr. Damon Kennedy named lone finalist for Midland College presidential position

Kennedy is currently the Vice President of Instructional Services at Midland College.

MIDLAND, Texas — Midland College has named Dr. Damon Kennedy as its lone finalist for the Midland College presidential position.

“I’m excited," said Kennedy. "I’m ready to get to work. I tend to be a head down person and put tasks in front and get those things done. Looking forward to taking on a new role and providing some additional leadership.”

Kennedy is currently Vice President of Instructional Services at Midland College. He is a former student at MC and a life-long West Texan. He earned his Ph.D. in American history at Texas Tech University, and also earned his M.A. and B.A. in American history from University of Texas Permian Basin.

He plans on continuing the great work the college engages in with the greater community.

"I want it to be known that Midland College is going to be the college this community deserves," said Kennedy. "And Midland College is going to continue to be a strong partner with all taxing entities, with business and industry, and with the community at large."

Back in January of 2023, current Midland College President Dr. Steve Thomas announced his plans to retire in August of this year.

The Midland College Board of Trustees will have to wait 21 days before officially naming Kennedy the president of Midland College. If confirmed, Kennedy will become the fifth president in the college's history.

That vote will be held on June 27.
