One of America’s Greatest Main Streets is in the Garden State!
Metuchen in Middlesex County has won the 2023 Great American Main Street of the Year. Metuchen Downtown Alliance members celebrated at a watch party Monday morning as it was officially announced at a national conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
“We already don’t have a lot of storefronts available, but I think this is going to be really hard to get into Metuchen as a new business because everybody will want to come here,” said Joanne Cruz, of Metuchen Downtown Alliance.
Cruz says volunteers helped to make the difference as Metuchen was chosen over seven other Main Street semifinalists from around the country including one in Orlando, Florida. Criteria includes Main Street community transformation as well as historic preservation.
Past New Jersey winners include Montclair and Westfield.
