Close encounters of aviation excitement are ramping up in Middle River for the first of two 2024 Open Cockpit Days at the Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum at Martin State Airport on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Museum welcomes aboard visitors on its shuttle buses to transport them to the outdoor airplanes where imaginations take flight. Visitors board a Martin Company 1952 404-passenger plane where memories of past flights may be recalled by older visitors.

Look into cockpits of a B-57 aircraft built by the Martin Company, also a Huey helicopter, and 1950s fighter planes and other aircraft. Children will discover aviation STEM when they get an up-close look at the various features that enable aircraft to function properly.

The last shuttle bus to the airplanes departs at 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event.

Museum exhibit galleries in Hangar 5 remain open until 3 p.m. Admission to this special event is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Rain date is Saturday, May 4.

Attend this exciting experience at 701 Wilson Point Road in Middle River to create and capture new memories when discovering Maryland’s aviation history. For additional information, visit http://www.mdairmuseum.org.
