A rising female rapper has been charged with second-degree murder for shooting her manager to death — and now, surveillance footage of the fatal incident has surfaced.
NBC Miami obtained the shocking video showing the moments leading up to when Kevhani Camilla Hicks, 27, fired on two men who'd, moments before, been pinning her down.
Hicks , who raps as Key Vhani , is seen in the footage arguing with another man — her manager, who has not been identified — next to a white vehicle in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood. Before long, things escalate and get physical.
Vhani posted a message to instagram Monday morning, saying that she has been released and the experience was "traumatic and life changing".
The video shows another man enter the fray, and soon, both men are seen pushing the young woman to the ground, where they keep her pinned down momentarily.
After she's able to get up and walk away, Hicks is seen pulling a gun from her bag then begins firing. One of the men sprints out of the frame; bullets can be seen ricocheting around the manager as he stumbles to the ground, and tries ducking behind a parked car for safety.
Hicks follows him, and we can see she shoots at him again before someone behind the wheel of the white car drives into her, partially running her over.
Police arrived to find the manager with several gunshot wounds and Hicks was hospitalized with blunt force injuries.
Hicks told police she shot at the men because she feared for her own safety.
She is being held on $50,000 bond and her public defender said in court last month it was a "clear case of self-defense," according to NBC Miami.
The rapper's fans have launched an Instagram page dedicated to helping her fight the allegations, and are calling for her to be released, citing the state's infamous stand-your-ground law.
Fans have also started a GoFundMe campaign to help defray any impending legal costs.
