The Heat and Nuggets are getting ready to tip off the NBA Finals on Thursday night and let's just say that Wendy's and McDonald's missed an easy layup.

Staring at the best food-friendly matchup the NBA has to offer — spicy nuggets, for those curious — both of them dropped the ball.

Instead, Chipotle drained the shot from way downtown.

When fans tune into the NBA Finals they'll be most likely rooting for a team, their bets and now their stomachs as well. The restaurant has a new offer for fans during the last few games of the season — for every made three, score a free entree, or as the company calls it, "When they hit a three, burritos are free."

The power of rhyming has never been stronger.

With 594,083 made threes in NBA regular season and playoff history, this is the first time a "Free-Pointer" will lead directly to a burrito.

"Like a well-timed 3-pointer on basketball's biggest stage, free Chipotle brings people out of their seats," said Chris Brandt, Chief Brand Officer at Chipotle. "This year, when it rains threes, it rains free burritos."

We've come a long way since the first made three during an NBA game on Oct. 12, 1979 by Chris Ford of the Boston Celtics. The Sporting News explains how to secure a free burrito at Chipotle during the 2023 NBA Finals.

How to get a free Chipotle burrito during the NBA Finals

The rules for getting a free burrito are nice and easy. Here's how to do it:

  1. When a player in the series hits a 3-pointer, Chipotle will drop a text-to-win code via a tweet from @CHIPOTLETWEETS on Twitter.
  2. The first 300 fans to text the designated code to 888222 will receive a free entree from Chipotle. The brand will give away up to 10,500 free entrees per game. Ordinary text and data rates will apply.

The odds of getting a meal aren't particularly great considering Chipotle's 1.3 million followers on Twitter and the likelihood that many will have notifications set for the account, but be on the lookout anyway.

Food is expensive. Never turn down a free meal, and always get the guac.
