LINKS: School Approved Summer Camps

School is down to a few more days in South Florida with the last day being Wednesday in Miami-Dade and Thursday in Broward, but the learning doesn't have to stop.

Miami-Dade Public Schools is ready to offer up to 65,000 rising kindergarten to 12th grade students summer learning opportunities through its Summer305 program at more than 100 campuses.

"We want to give parents options where they can place their children in a safe place, where they're going to have fun. They're going to do a little bit of learning, a lot of fun, and spend the summer the South Florida way," says Miami-Dade Public Schools' Chief Academic Officer Lourdes Diaz.

Programs range from school makeup work, to Smart Start camps, dual enrollment and paid internship programs.

Miami-Dade Public School certified teachers are also going to be teaching at more than 300 Children's Trust summer camps, "so even if they are not attending at one of our schools, and the children are attending through Children's Trust, they're still getting a little bit of practice in math and reading, and SAT and ACT prep for the older kids," adds Diaz.

Online registration runs through Wednesday, but it will continue at the school sites into the first week of the five-week programs.

Summer305 programs for K-8 students begins on June 20th. It's June 12th for grades 9-12.

Broward County Public Schools offers programs through its Summer Experience and 21st Century Community Learning Center.
