Suspect in Metropolis standoff charged

METROPOLIS, Ill. (KFVS) - Illinois State Police announced the suspect in a standoff on Monday, June 5, in Metropolis, Ill. was arrested and charged.

According to a release from ISP, on Tuesday, June 6, 29-year-old Eric Rushing of Metropolis, Ill., was charged with aggravated battery and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Rushing is currently in custody at the Massac County Jail, with bond set at $200,000, 10% to apply.

On June 5, ISP was investigating an incident of aggravated battery involving a firearm, and identified Rushing as the suspect. Following the incident, Rushing barricaded himself inside a home in the 400 block of W. 20th Street, according to the release.

According to Metropolis Police Chief Harry Masse, police responded to the corner of McCrary and 20th Streets at around 2 p.m. on Monday, June 5.

According to a release from Illinois State Police, troopers were dispatched to the 400 block of W. 20th Street around 3:09 p.m. in response to a report of a subject with a gun who was barricaded inside a home. The Massac County Sheriff’s Office and the Metropolis Police Department, as well as the ISP SWAT and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene to assist.

Around 7:15 p.m., the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody with no injuries to anyone involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
