Arizona State Troopers Seize over 260 Pounds of Fentanyl in Just One Week
The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) reported on Monday that troopers seized more than 260 pounds of fentanyl pills in just four traffic stops in a one week period. Troopers seized 262.02 pounds of fentanyl pills between November 7 and November 14, the agency revealed in a press release. Eight suspects were arrested as a result of the seizures.

Jeremie Sowerby, 45, of Fountain Hills was arrested last month for allegedly scamming hundreds of people in cryptocurrency investment schemes. One alleged scam offered investors the chance to purchase or lease cryptocurrency mining machines, receive new coins as rewards and exchange those coins for profit. In reality, according to prosecutors, Sowerby “overpromised and never delivered.”

Two incidents occurred in Chandler, Arizona this week. In the first incident, a 50-year-old woman was shot by a Chandler police officer in a shopping mall. She was treated and released from the hospital and now faces charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated assault. The second incident involved a 28-year-old man from Chandler who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 87 months in prison for shooting and killing a victim in December 2020.
Suspicious Death Under Investigation Near Guadalupe and Recker Roads in Gilbert
On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, Gilbert Police officers responded to a home near Guadalupe and Recker Roads for a citizens’ assist call where the reporting party requested a walkthrough of the residence. Officers entered the home with the reporting party’s permission and located a deceased individual inside. Gilbert PD detectives are actively investigating to determine the person’s cause of death due to suspicious circumstances. There are no public safety concerns associated with this investigation. Chandler man sentenced to over 7 years for voluntary manslaughter
PHOENIX — A 28-year-old man from Chandler was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for voluntary manslaughter, authorities announced Monday. Walter Lee Riggins, Jr. pleaded guilty to the charge in August in the December 2020 case, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
