The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) reported on Monday that troopers seized more than 260 pounds of fentanyl pills in just four traffic stops in a one week period. Troopers seized 262.02 pounds of fentanyl pills between November 7 and November 14, the agency revealed in a press release. Eight suspects were arrested as a result of the seizures.

Mesa, Arizona experienced two notable incidents this week. The first incident involved a possible shooting reported near Loop 101. However, upon investigation, it was determined that the individual had actually been cut by broken glass and not shot. The second incident involved an Arizona couple who were arrested in California for allegedly defrauding the state's Medicaid system of over $12 million. They are accused of submitting false claims for treatment at their behavioral health clinic in Mesa.

Chandler Police are filing both felony and misdemeanor charges against the woman accused of abusing dozens of special-needs dogs. The ASU Police Department has reported two more incidents of vehicle theft at the Taylor Parking Structure, located at 475 N. 2nd St. on the Downtown Phoenix campus. The first theft happened between November 14 and November 22, 2023. The second theft occurred on November 24, 2023.

She was treated and released from the hospital and now faces charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated assault. The second incident involved a 28-year-old man from Chandler who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 87 months in prison for shooting and killing a victim in December 2020.

On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, Gilbert Police officers responded to a home near Guadalupe and Recker Roads for a citizens’ assist call where the reporting party requested a walkthrough of the residence. Officers entered the home with the reporting party’s permission and located a deceased individual inside. Gilbert PD detectives are actively investigating to determine the person’s cause of death due to suspicious circumstances. There are no public safety concerns associated with this investigation. PHOENIX — A 28-year-old man from Chandler was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for voluntary manslaughter, authorities announced Monday. Walter Lee Riggins, Jr. pleaded guilty to the charge in August in the December 2020 case, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
