Federal agents respond after explosion reported in southern New Hampshire
TONIGHT AT TEN. JOHN. WELL, THAT’S STILL A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED HERE TODAY. BUT YOU CAN SEE BEHIND US HERE, THE ROAD STILL SHUT DOWN AS THE POLICE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. HEARD AN UNBELIEVABLY LOUD EXPLOSION. A NEIGHBOR’S CAMERA CAPTURED THE EARLY AFTERNOON BLAST. STARTLING PEOPLE WHO LIVE NEAR PIERSON ROAD. IT SOUNDED LIKE ORDINANCE. IT SOUNDED REALLY, REALLY SHARP AND FAST. SHOOK THE HOUSE, RATTLED THE WINDOW PANES, EVERYTHING JUST KIND OF JUMPED. I MEAN, THE HOUSE SHOOK. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS REALLY, REALLY CLOSE. SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS, BLOCKS AWAY SHOOK DURING THE EXPLOSION. POLICE RESPONDED AROUND 130, SHUTTING DOWN THE ROADWAY AS NEIGHBORS WONDERED WHAT CAUSED THE FRIGHTENING SOUND. I WAS THINKING A HOUSE BLEW UP. PROPANE ACCIDENT. THEY’RE DOING A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION ALONG THE PARKWAY, SO WE DIDN’T KNOW IF THEY HIT A GAS LINE OR IF THERE WAS BLASTING AND WE ALL JUST RAN AROUND. WAS IT SOMETHING IN THE HOUSE? DID SOMETHING HIT THE HOUSE? POLICE SPENT HOURS INVESTIGATING, TRYING TO REASSURE NEIGHBORS AS THEY GATHERED POTENTIAL EVIDENCE. THE AUTHORITIES HAVE INDICATED THERE’S NO ONGOING THREAT, BUT IT’S STILL, YOU KNOW, IT’S STILL A LITTLE SOMETHING THAT’S A LITTLE OFF PUTTING. SO POLICE HAVE NOT SAID MUCH ABOUT THEIR INVESTIGATION HERE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. A CAR, A SEDAN, A WHITE SEDAN WITH A CRACKED WINDSHIELD WAS JUST TOWED AWAY. NOT CLEAR HOW THAT MAY BE INVOLVED HERE, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, THE ROAD STILL SHUT DOWN. WE’RE LIVE IN MERRIMACK
