Officer fires gun during traffic stop in Merced

A shot was fired during a traffic stop in Merced Saturday afternoon.

According to the Merced Police Department, this was an officer-involved shooting near West Olive Ave. and M Street.

They say the traffic stop was due to a moving violation. The vehicle with multiple people inside pulled over into a shopping center, then several exited the vehicle.

The officer fired one shot but no one was injured.

Two people were detained after attempting to run from the area.

Officers say that in the midst of all this, the vehicle also drove off and they were unable to find it.
