Guns, ID cards, credit cards, mail, checks seized during search warrant in Merced

MERCED, Calif. — A wanted man is behind bars after police served a search warrant at a home in Merced and found guns along with numerous stolen items, officials say.

The Merced Police Department responded to a home near the 2000 block of East Childs Ave. There, 39-year-old Ricky Ornelas attempted to escape through the back of the property.

He didn’t get far, police say, with the help of a drone he was found and arrested.

Inside the home, officers found two loaded handguns, multiple California IDs, credit cards, checks, laptops, mail, and a large generator that had been reported stolen out of Fresno.

Ornelas was wanted for several violations of probation. He now sits at the Merced County Jail on multiple charges.
