The Merced Police Department announced the arrest of two men accused of being involved in an illegal street race that led to a deadly crash last year.

Police say 26-year-old Jose Ramirez Moreno and 21-year-old Alize Jacob Lua were involved in a street race in Merced on October 26th.

They say Moreno was driving a Camaro and Lua was driving a BMW and were going over 80 miles per hour on M Street when Moreno broadsided a car in the intersection of Buena Vista Dr.

The elderly woman driving the other car was killed in the crash and her granddaughter was injured.

Police say Lua avoided the crash and took off.

The Merced County District Attorney's Office issued warrants for both men and they were arrested on Monday at their homes and booked into the Merced County Jail for vehicular homicide.
