MENOMINEE — Iron Mountain is once again the top team in 11-player football according to the latest Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association poll released Tuesday.
In fact, the top of the third UPSSA poll looks identical to the second, with No. 2 Menominee (5-0), No. 3 Kingsford (4-1) and No. 4 Negaunee (4-1) remaining idle.
The Mountaineers took down West Iron County 49-0, Menominee crushed Houghton 56-0, Kingsford blew out Calumet 41-0, and Negaunee hammered Hancock 49-10.
The lone change in the 11-player rankings is Gladstone (4-1) moving back into the poll at No. 5 after the Braves waxed Westwood 49-8.
Menominee hosts Gladstone on Friday at 6:30 p.m. from Walton Blesch Field, in a battle between the top two teams in the West-PAC Copper division.
Sault Ste. Marie (3-2), who was No. 5 last week, dropped out of the rankings after suffering a 28-7 loss to Marquette.
While the 11-player poll remains largely unchanged, the 8-player rankings suffered a major shakeup.
North Central (4-1) tumbled from No. 1 to No. 4 after a 28-25 upset loss to Lake Linden-Hubbell, a defeat that snapped the Jets’ 41-game winning streak.
The Lakes makes their poll debut at No. 5 with their win over the Jets.
Pickford (5-0) makes the jump from No. 2 to No. 1 after the Panthers annihilated Rapid River 73-0.
Norway (4-1) leaps from No. 5 to No. 2 thanks to a 44-6 victory over Bessemer, while St Ignace (5-0) remains at No. 3.
