Many feared that Ja Morant could end up missing some of the Memphis Grizzlies' most crucial games after the young, nascent point guard's involvement in one off-court controversy after another. However, a return for Morant seems to be on the horizon, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Now that Morant has served his eight-game suspension in full, he could return to action as soon as Wednesday night, when the Grizzlies take on the Houston Rockets at home, according to Charania. While the 23-year old floor general is eligible to return on Monday night against the Dallas Mavericks at the earliest, he will just be rejoining the team on the bench for that contest.

“He's out tonight [against the Mavs] even though his 8-game suspension is over. He's gonna miss tonight, they're gonna ramp him up. I'm told he could return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday at home against the Rockets,” Charania said, per FanDuel TV.

This development is nothing but good news for Grizzlies fans. Tyus Jones may be playing at an extremely high level in Ja Morant's stead, but it's difficult to envision the Grizzlies going deep into the postseason without their star man in town. After all, there is no substitute for talent in a grueling playoff run.

The Grizzlies' star point guard reportedly went through counseling after a string of troubling incidents, including his alleged involvement in fights with teenagers and his brandishing of a gun in the incriminating video he posted on Instagram live. So, at the very least, the hope for the Grizzlies is that Morant has truly put his off-court troubles behind him, especially with the postseason only a month away.

With Ja Morant still out on Monday, expect Tyus Jones to continue his stellar production. Over the last eight games, Jones has averaged 16.4 points and 8.5 assists on 49 percent shooting from the field, helping the Grizzlies remain afloat amid Morant's absence.

In addition to Morant's absence, the Grizzlies also face the possibility of going up against the Mavs without Jaren Jackson Jr., who remains questionable to play due to left calf soreness.
