Social media goes nuts over Bryce James’ put-back slam
By Jesse Pantuosco,
LeBron James’ season ended with a loss to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals earlier this week. While James contemplates his NBA future, his son Bryce is just getting started, turning heads with his performance at Saturday’s Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) tournament in Memphis.
James, who will transfer from Sierra Canyon to Campbell Hall School for his upcoming junior season, impressed with 12 points, none more thrilling than this emphatic put-back slam.
That got everyone at the Memphis Sports and Events Center out of their seats, with Bryce’s two-handed flush providing the perfect exclamation point for Team Strive For Greatness’ win over Vegas Elite.
As noted by Jason Munz of the Memphis Commercial Appeal , James was wearing Ja Morant’s new signature sneaker, which, despite his recent string of bad publicity, sold out upon its release on the SNKRS app earlier this week.
Though he’s often been overshadowed by his sibling and former Sierra Canyon teammate, Bronny, Bryce, with his 6’6” frame and elite athleticism, might actually be a better, more complete prospect than his older brother. Bronny, of course, is headed to USC this fall, choosing the Trojans over Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan and Memphis.
It’s still early in his recruitment, though Bryce, who turns 16 next month, has already received a scholarship offer from Duquesne.
James had previously expressed interest in playing with his sons if and when they reach the NBA, though that was never a likely scenario, especially with the 38-year-old now mulling retirement after 20 seasons of burning the candle at both ends.
