New Hampshire Libertarian Party Says Anyone Who Assassinates VP Kamala Harris ‘Would Be an American Hero’ in Deleted Tweet

The official Twitter account for the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire deleted a tweet claiming “anyone who murders Kamala Harris would be American hero.”

On Sunday, a man was arrested after firing shots near former President Donald Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Trump was in the area at the time, and the FBI confirmed the shooting was another attempted assassination of the former president.

Early Sunday morning — before the shooting — the Libertarian Party responded to a tweet in which a user said, “I disagree with the ‘assault weapons’ ban, but maybe save the threatening rhetoric, eh?” In its response, the party claimed an assassin of the vice president would be revered as an “American hero.”

Hours later, the party announced that it deleted the tweet and claimed that “libertarians cannot speak freely” on the platform.

“Libertarians are truly the most oppressed minority,” the tweet read.

On Monday morning, the Libertarian Party released a statement to clarify that it was not “advocating” for Harris’s assassination. Despite this, the party seemingly doubled down on the sentiment of the deleted tweet and claimed it would be “morally correct to use violence to stop aggression.”

“We would never advocate for the assassination of a tyrannical President,” the statement said. “That’s illegal. We were merely acknowledging how some members would react to one. These feelings are no different than how many leftists reacted and continue to react to assassination attempts on Donald Trump.

“Libertarians are not pacifists. We are not ‘non-violent.’ Libertarians are against the initiation of force, but threats to property rights and self-determination exist everywhere. It is morally correct to use violence to stop aggression.”
