‘It’s Really Sick!’ Pelosi Obliterates Trump for Joking About the Attack on Her Husband Paul

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) slammed former President Donald Trump for mocking the attack on her husband, calling his comments “sick.”

While promoting her new book on ABC’s The View on Monday, Pelosi was asked by co-host Whoopi Goldberg how her husband Paul Pelosi was doing almost two years after being attacked in their home in October 2022 by David DePape . Driven by right-wing conspiracy theories, DePape was targeting Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the House, who was not home at the time; he entered the house in the middle of the night and hit Paul Pelosi over the head with a hammer, causing him serious injuries including a fractured skull. DePape was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

On Friday, Trump joked about the attack in front of the Fraternal Order of Police, saying: “Nancy Pelosi has a big wall wrapped around her house. Of course, it didn’t help too much with the problems she had, did it?”

Pelosi said her husband was “doing okay” and continued to recount the struggle their family has faced in the aftermath of the attack:

Getting hit on the head three times is a horrible thing. And that was physical. But the traumatic effect for him, for us, for the family, but also for other political families as well, to just families in America, violence has no place in any resolution of any discussion you may have. So again, what was sad though, Whoopi, was that it was horrible. It was horrible when it happened. It was horrible. We didn’t even know if he was alive when we first heard about the attack.

But before you could even say anything, your friend who shall remain nameless, he was on there making a joke of it, and people were laughing and his family was making a joke and Republican governor making jokes and that. And that’s just horrible. It’s sick. It’s really sick. Even as recently as one of his speeches the other day, he said “she has a wall around” — we don’t have a wall around our house. He’s always projecting. He probably has a wall around his house. We don’t have one on our house. “And that didn’t help her out there very much.” To make a joke of that, and then they laughed at that. So, the trauma of it all is not just the physical but the the impact of the rest of it.
