Former Obama Advisor Says Democrats Are Too Confident, ‘Very Possible’ Trump ‘Would Win’ Election If It Was Held Today

Pod Save America co-host and former Barack Obama advisor Dan Pfeiffer warned Democrats they may be a little too confident at the moment about Vice President Kamala Harris’s chances against former President Donald Trump .

“If you polled the press corps and most Democrats who are not working for the Harris-Walz campaign, 85 percent would say that Kamala Harris would win if the election were held today,” Pfeiffer told Puck News in an interview published Thursday.

Pfeiffer argued that people who are more directly aware of the numbers coming from battleground states look at the election as more of a 50-50 situation. The podcaster himself argued it is “very possible” that Trump would win the election over Harris if it were held today.

“I think it’s very possible that if the election were held today, Trump would win,” he said.

In battleground states, neither candidate is apart by more than a couple points, Pfeiffer added, making this election more of a nail-biter than Harris’s momentum in national polls and fundraising hauls would suggest.

“When you dig into the battleground state poll numbers, they’re all toss-ups, every single one of them,” he said, pointing to Pennsylvania as the most consequential for both candidates.

A YouGov poll released this week, in coordination with The Times and SAY24, found Trump and Harris essentially tied in battleground states. Harris led in four, taking the lead in Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. Trump meanwhile led Georgia, Arizona, and North Carolina. Both candidates’ leads, however, were within the poll’s margin of error.
