The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s took an early 4-0 lead against the Medford Mustangs Wednesday night in the home opener for the Docs, but it didn’t hold up as the ‘Stangs rallied for a 6-4 victory at Bill Gray Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field.

It was a couple of newcomers that helped give the Docs (1-1) a lead in the first inning. Waylon McKnight and Jaylen Riddle hit back-to-back singles to drive in three runs and put Roseburg ahead 4-0.

The advantage lasted until the fourth inning when Medford (2-1) started taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the Docs. The Mustangs scored when a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, plated two runs on wild pitches and scored on a throwing error.

Roseburg had a runner in scoring position in each of its final four at bats, but couldn’t muster the comeback.

Evan Martin and Riddle both had two hits and McKnight led the way with two RBI.

Tristan Ledbetter took the loss after pitching 2 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on two hits, while striking out two and walking two. The Docs pitching staff walked 11 batters total and hit two.

Triston Mallari led the way for Medford, going 2-for-3, with two walks and a run scored.

The Docs will continue the season on Sunday with its first doubleheader of the schedule. Roseburg visits Corvallis to square off with the Marketmen. Game 1 starts at noon. Follow the action on The Score 92.3 FM and 1490 AM or watch online at 541radio.com.
