Man Shot In Head Found Dead On Couch In St. Mary's County: Sheriff

A man and woman are facing charges in St. Mary’s County for their alleged roles in the death of a 51-year-old man who was found dead on Wednesday morning, the sheriff’s office announced.

Marvin Orlando Johnson, 38, of Mechanicsville, and Marlee Lynn Stokes, 37, of Charlotte Hall, have been identified and apprehended in connection to the death of Raymond Franklin Woods, Jr., who was found shot in the head this week.

Officials say that shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to conduct a welfare checkout an apartment in the 29000 block of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville, where there were reports of a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, they found Woods, dead on a couch with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The gunshot wound was determined to be a homicide following an investigation by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Johnson was charged with:

  • First-degree murder;
  • Second-degree murder;
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence;
  • First-degree assault;
  • Second-degree assault.

Stokes was charged with first-degree murder: accessory after the fact and second-degree murder: accessory after the fact.

Both are being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown without bond.

The homicide remains under investigation.
