The proposed expansion would include a new nearly 24,000-square-foot building to be constructed at the north end of the property on what is parking spaces. Pat Lobb Toyota is located on about 13 total acres at 3350 S. Central Expressway near Craig Drive.
The new building would be an expansion of the dealership’s automotive service operations, according to city documents. It would include a new detached automotive shop, expansion of the dealership’s quick service facilities and a new car wash, according to city documents.
Commission Member Brian Mantzey noted the loss of parking spaces for the project may cause employees of the dealership to park on neighboring streets. However, city staff said the number of remaining parking spaces will be sufficient for the business’ operations.
“We’re very comfortable with this. ... Pat [Lobb’s] got a policy about not allowing employees to park on Craig Drive,” said Rick Ferrara of Gensler Architects, representing Pat Lobb Toyota, of the decreased parking capacity.
Ferrara also noted that due to a national chip shortage, Toyota dealerships nationwide are expecting to have fewer cars on the sales lot compared to prepandemic years, freeing up even more parking spaces.
A specific-use permit for the expansion was given a unanimous recommendation of approval by the planning and zoning commission, and it will be considered by the City Council at a March 21 meeting.
