Bill Poole exits Alabama government for new career

Former Alabama Finance Director Bill Poole is returning to the private sector after ending a 16-year career in public office. He announced Oct. 5 that he has joined a Tuscaloosa construction company, taken a role with a Birmingham private equity firm and plans to launch his own consulting business. Poole, who stepped down Sept. 29 as Alabama finance director after serving five years as the state's chief fiscal officer, will join Tuscaloosa-based Harrison Construction as vice president of finance, legal and external affairs. In the newly created role, Poole will oversee executive management and strategy, including legal matters, finance and capital strategy, government relations, external affairs and growth opportunities. Before entering public service in 2010, Poole practiced law and represented Harrison Construction. “Harrison Construction is a longstanding and highly regarded company,” Poole said in a statement. “Joining the Harrison team allows me to use my legal, financial, governmental and executive management experience to help grow the company’s footprint and portfolio.” Harrison Construction President Tim Harrison welcomed Poole's addition to the executive team, citing his experience in government, finance and law.
