News Release: As Georgetown Keeps Growing, Construction of Medical Office Buildings Lags FarBehind—Until Now
GEORGETOWN, TX — March 18, 2026 — Georgetown’s population is surging. As one of the fastest-growing cities in America, its population has jumped nearly 50 percent since the 2020 Census—and it is still growing. New roads, homes, schools, water lines and fire stations have been built to serve the residents. But for more than a decade, no large-scale medical office space for independent doctors has been constructed, so seeing a doctor often means traveling to a nearby city.

UT Austin Lab Cracks Deadly Virus Map, Puts Hantavirus Vaccine In Sight
Scientists at The University of Texas at Austin have pulled off their clearest look yet at the Andes hantavirus, mapping the virus’s surface entry complex at near-atomic detail. That intricate blueprint shows how the pathogen latches onto and fuses with human cells and underpins a structure-based vaccine candidate that, in lab tests, pushed mice to generate neutralizing antibodies. The work closes a long-standing gap in hantavirus research and could help accelerate targeted vaccines and antibody therapies.

Lakeway Gets High-Risk Pregnancy Lifeline As Texas Children’s Clinic Opens
High-risk expectant parents in the Lake Travis area now have a shorter drive for specialized care. Texas Children’s Hospital has opened its Pavilion for Women and Specialty Care in Lakeway, bringing maternal-fetal medicine and pediatric specialty services to the neighborhood so people with complicated pregnancies can get advanced care closer to home. The clinic began seeing patients in early January and is the system’s second maternal-fetal medicine site in the Austin area. Texas Children’s says the Lakeway location was set up so local doctors can refer patients for high-risk evaluations and, when needed, coordinate hospital delivery and neonatal support without repeated trips into central Austin.
