On Oct. 26th, The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized the next phase of plans for a new passenger terminal at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN). During its meeting, the board authorized JMAA to negotiate a predevelopment agreement with the Jackson Forward development team, led by CAG Holdings, Yates Construction and Gensler. The proposed project includes plans for a new concourse, at least six additional gates and updated terminal facilities. The initiative would use a design build finance approach that incorporates private investment alongside other potential funding sources. Construction could begin by the end of 2028. The project remains in the planning and negotiation stages and the final design, scope and configuration have not been determined. The effort is part of a broader push to modernize Mississippi’s busiest commercial airport and improve the passenger experience while supporting economic development in the Jackson region. Jackson Municipal Airport Authority CEO Rosa Beckett said Monday, Oct. 26, that the authority can continue moving the project forward while litigation over a state effort to replace the current airport authority remains unresolved. “Right now, there isn't a constraint with us moving forward because we have to deliver the service to the community regardless of the litigation,” Beckett said. Beckett's comments came after airport commissioners selected a development team to lead a proposed overhaul of Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport. The preliminary plan includes a new departure concourse, a single security checkpoint and demolition of the west concourse. The project is moving into design and negotiations. A total construction price and a final financing plan have not been established. Asked whether the takeover case could disrupt those plans, Beckett said the airport already continues operating under its existing governance while the lawsuit is active. “So we continue to have to operate the airport and provide services to the community,” Beckett said. “And so we have that autonomy to do that, and we've been doing that for the past 10 years.” Understanding Jackson's
