Meet our CBS4 NBC23 talent at South Texas Comic Con

McALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — If you are heading to South Texas Comic Con Friday and Saturday, be sure to stop by our CBS4 NBC23 booth to say hi!

CBS4 Evening Anchor and Investigative Reporter Derick Garcia, NBC 23 anchor Sonya Hill and Chief Meteorlogist Freddy Vela will be at the booth from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.

You may recognize Derick from his time at the desk or for his investigative work with series such as 956 Vanished, which highlight cases of missing people in the Rio Grande Valley; CBS4 Investigates, which has recently taken a deep dive into the city of Progreso and the corruption within; or from his work on the CBS4 series Food 4 Thought, where Derick holds local restaurants up to code.

However, don’t let his award winning work fool you, Derick is a self proclaimed nerd and you may even be able to find him in costume at this weekend’s event.

For NBC23 you will be able to meet Sonya Hill, our evening anchor who attended her first South Texas Comic Con last year. Sonya got the opportunity to interview Star Trek actor William Shatner live at last year’s event.

Sonya has built up an impressive resume during her two years serving the Rio Grande Valley. During her time here she has covered breaking news including the death of multiple migrants when an intoxicated driver claimed their lives, she gave you in depth coverage from the Texas-Mexico border after the lifting of Title 42, she is part of the 956 Vanished team and highlights stories of those who has disappeared in the Rio Grande Valle, and she has her own series on NBC23 called Best of the RGV where she highlights the top three restaurants serving a specific dish every month.

Sonya is excited to meet the viewers of the Rio Grande Valley and cant wait to see what’s in store for this years Comic Con.

NBC Chief Meteorologist Freddy Vela will also be at the event. Freddy is a member of South Texas Comic Con and has been asked to MC panel discussions at the event for the past couple years. Freddy is a dedicated meteorologists keeping the Rio Grande Valley in the know about the latest weather. He has spearheaded hurricane specials for the most accurate information and is diligently working on this year’s special to inform viewers on the latest.

Freddy is a huge comics fan and would love to meet his viewers who share the same interests as him at this event.

Be sure to come visit our amazing talent at this weekend’s event located at the McAllen Convention Center.

Our booth will also be equipped with a 360 camera where you and your friends can get free selfies from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
