Summer heat keeps going with another heat advisory today
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The sweltering summer heat will continue this week, we are hoping for some marginal relief late this week and over the weekend. High pressure overhead will keep our highs at or above 100 degrees through at least Wednesday. A few of our East Texas counties could wind up as high as 103 or 104 degrees this afternoon. It’s more of a ‘dry heat” today with lower humidity, but there will be enough muggy air to push our heat index over 105 degrees, triggering another heat advisory. Limit your outdoor time to the early morning and evening, and stay hydrated if you do have to work outside.

Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are already in effect across much of the area, including northern portions of the ArkLaTex. More heat alerts could be issued as temperatures climb into the low 100s.

Temperatures could ease late next week, but not much. Rain still looks unlikely. One long-range model provides a glimmer of hope on when this pattern could end.

Scattered Thunderstorms Area Wide: Regional Forecast – 8/6/2026
When it’s August, you get afternoon pulse storms. Or something like that. Our area is stuck in a void of weather systems between the subtropical highs to the east and west and the main trough and jet stream to the north. This will lead to a seasonably warm and thick atmosphere. Temperatures will peak in the mid 90s to the west and a bit cooler to the east due to convection.
