BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Gasoline prices have surged in the last week here in Massachusetts, according to AAA Northeast. The average price of gas is up to $3.56 a gallon, 19 cents higher than last week, 27 cents higher than a month ago, and eight cents higher than this time a year ago. However, the Massachusetts average is still 11 cents lower than the national average.

“Drivers might be seeing red at the gas pump this week, but there are signs that the pace of price increases could ease,” said Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson for AAA Northeast. “It’s not unusual to see a lull in demand between the end of spring breaks and Memorial Day.”
