Cape Cod weather forecast: Will spring do its thing this week?

While Cape Cod springs can be ill-tempered, it looks like we're getting off to a promising start. According to the National Weather Service Boston office forecast discussion, "a very nice day is on tap for Tuesday," with sunny skies.

Some inland areas in southeastern Massachusetts might see temperatures approach 60 degrees on Tuesday, but coastal spots, including Cape Cod, won't be as warm. Still, the peninsula could see high temps close to 50, and for this time of year, that's not too shabby!

For those keeping score, afternoon highs on Tuesday will be ten to 15 degrees above normal, according to the National Weather Service.

A look at how average temperatures and sunlight times change in our region from the first day of spring to the last day of spring.

Wednesday looks like another spring winner and almost a copy of Tuesday, at least for the first part of the day, though perhaps a tad cooler. Toward the end of Wednesday, clouds should begin to arrive, the harbingers of some unsettled (but not rotten) weather later this week.

On the plus side, it looks like temperatures will stay above freezing, even at night, through Friday.

Careful with matches and cigarettes: The potential for brush fires is elevated this week.

In the avoid brush fires department, we have had several special weather statements from the National Weather Service over the past set of days regarding elevated fire potential. This is due to a dry air mass, elevated temperatures and a significant breeze.

The most recent statement was issued on Monday, and the National Weather Service is urging folks to "use caution when handling ignition sources, including but not limited to matches and cigarettes."
