NOW, THE WGAL NEWS 8 STORM TEAM FORECAST WITH METEOROLOGIST TJ SPRINGER TO BARBARA BARR SATURDAY. WE HAVE SEEN A LITTLE MORE CLOUD COVER, BUT OVERALL, IT’S BEEN A DRY DAY. WE’VE STILL SEEN SOME SUNSHINE, STILL SOME OF THOSE MID AND HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS OUT THERE IN THE RED ROSE CITY. WE’RE STILL GOING TO SEE SOME STARS THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT AND I THINK WE’LL STILL HAVE SOME SUNSHINE FOR OUR MEMORIAL DAY AS HIGH PRESSURE IS STILL TO OUR NORTH. THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE STILL TO OUR SOUTH. WE CAN SEE THOSE SHOWERS FALLING ACROSS THE CAROLINAS, VIRGINIA, OUT THROUGH PARTS OF THE OHIO VALLEY AND WEST VIRGINIA. BUT REALLY HARD PRESSED TO SEE ANY MOISTURE HERE ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. I THINK FOR THE MOST PART, WE’RE STILL GOING TO HAVE A MAINLY DRY REMAINDER OF OUR HOLIDAY WEEKEND. BUT THE HIGHEST CHANCES SO FAR THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND GOING TO COME ON MEMORIAL DAY ITSELF. AS WE ZOOM IN ON SUPER DOPPLER 8 HERE, WE CAN SEE A COUPLE OF SPRINKLES POPPING UP. BUT OVERALL, I THINK EVEN THIS ISN’T MAKING IT TO THE GROUND. WE STILL HAVE DRY ENOUGH AIR MASS CLOSER TO THE SURFACE JUST LIKE EARLIER IN THE DAY, WE SAW SOME OF THOSE SHOWERS POPPING UP AND IT LOOKS LIKE THEY WERE EVAPORATING BEFORE THEY WERE HITTING THE SURFACE. NOW, TONIGHT, WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE AS COOL AS WHAT WE WOKE UP TO THIS MORNING THANKS TO THOSE CLOUDS. WE’LL HAVE TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 50S THROUGH MID MORNING TOMORROW. WE’RE JUMPING BACK INTO THE MIDDLE 60S, NEAR 70, UNDER THAT PARTLY SUNNY SKY. AND WE’LL HAVE A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE FOR MEMORIAL DAY AFTERNOON WATCHING OUT FOR A FEW SHOWERS CLOSER TO THE MASON-DIXON LINE WITH TEMPERATURES BACK INTO THE UPPER 70S, CLOSER TO THAT MARYLAND STATE LINE. FARTHER NORTH, LITTLE WARMER WITH THE LACK OF CLOUD COVER WITH HIGHS BACK IN THE MID 80S. NOW, WE DID HIT THE LOW 80S TODAY A LITTLE BIT ABOVE NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. BUT OUR LOWS THANKS TO SOME OF THAT CLEAR SKY THROUGH LAST NIGHT DROP BACK INTO THE LOWER 50S. THANKFULLY NOWHERE NEAR THE RECORD OF 41. SAT BACK IN THE EARLY 1980S. WE’RE NOW DROPPING INTO THE LOWER 60S FROM LEBANON NORTHWARD THROUGH SELINSGROVE AT 66 IN THE WHITE CITY, STILL HANGING ON TO THE LOW 70S IN GETTYSBURG. IT IS 64 AND LANCASTER. NOW, IF YOU’RE TRAVELING TOMORROW, MAYBE FOR VACATION OR BACK HOME FROM VACATION FROM THE LONG WEEKEND, STILL GOING TO BE DEALING WITH, I THINK, THE CHANCE FOR AT LEAST SOME SHOWERS DOWN ACROSS THE NATION’S CAPITAL. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FARTHER SOUTH, BUT FARTHER TO THE NORTH, PLENTY OF SUNSHINE NOW NATIONWIDE. OVERALL, A PRETTY QUIET MEMORIAL DAY EXPECTING SOME SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, THOUGH, ACROSS THE HEART OF THE COUNTRY. NOW AS WE GET CLOSER TO HOME, WE’LL TIME OUT THOSE SHOWER CHANCES. NOT REALLY GREAT CHANCES WHATSOEVER, THOUGH. WE CAN SEE THOSE CLOUDS CLOSER TO THE MARYLAND PENNSYLVANIA STATE LINE. FARTHER NORTH, MORE SUNSHINE, WARMER TEMPERATURES, A COUPLE SPRINKLES POPPING UP THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON, EARLY EVENING AS WELL. BUT THEN THIS LOW FINALLY STARTS TO SHIFT. EASTBOUND AS WE HEAD INTO OUR TUESDAY AND EVENTUALLY WEDNESDAY. SO THAT TAKES THE ENERGY ALONG WITH IT. AND I THINK HIGH PRESSURE GOING TO START TO SETTLE IN IF YOU’RE GETTING OUT TO ANY PARADES TOMORROW, PLENTY TO GO AROUND. CARLISLE, STRASBURG, MARIETTA, GETTYSBURG, JUST TO NAME A FEW. TEMPERATURES GOING TO BE IN THE UPPER 60S THROUGH MID-MORNING UNDER THAT PARTLY SUNNY SKY WATCHING OUT FOR A FEW SHOWERS IN THE UPPER 70S THROUGH LUNCHTIME AND MAY STILL SEE A STRAY SPRINKLE AS WE HEAD THROUGH THREE WITH HIGHS GETTING BACK INTO THE LOWER 80S. NOW IF YOU’RE OUT AND ABOUT AT THOSE PARADES, YOU MAY WANT TO TAKE THE ALLERGY MEDICINE POLLEN LEVELS STILL GOING TO BE HIGH. MOLD LEVELS ARE LOW, WHICH IS GOOD NEWS. THE AIR QUALITY OZONE IS OKAY, BUT THE PARTICULATES IN THE ATMOSPHERE WITH THAT LIGHT WIND NOT MIXING THE LOWER LEVELS UP MUCH COULD HAVE SOME OF THOSE PARTICULATES IN THE AIR. SO WE HAVE MODERATE AIR QUALITY IN THAT REGARD. NOW OUR NEWSROOM TEN DAY FORECAST SHOW TEMPERATURES A LITTLE COOLER TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY WITH MORE OF AN EAST AND NORTHEASTERLY FLOW BACK INTO THE UPPER 80S SECONDS. ON THURSDAY, AS A RIDGE DEVELOPS 90 ON FRIDAY. AND IT LOOKS LIKE WE MAY SEE A COUPLE OF SHOWERS OR STORMS WITH A COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE BEHIND IT. WE’RE DROPPING BACK TO 80 ON SUNDAY. THEN WE’RE RIGHT BACK IN THE MID 80S TO MONDAY AND TUESDAY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND STORMS BY

Few showers possible Memorial Day, mainly south

The holiday weekend continues to be dry with just a few sprinkles popping up to our south across Maryland. Clouds have thickened up a little as we do have more moisture in the atmosphere but overall it's been a great day! We'll be hard-pressed to see any showers through the remainder of the evening with any shower chances staying mainly to our south. The high pressure center to the NW of us has really acted like a roadblock and hasn't allowed any of the rain to move northward. Lows won't be as cool overnight with the help of the clouds with more seasonable conditions on tap. Readings dip back into the 50s tonight with a light ESE breeze. The easterly flow keeps the moisture in the atmosphere around into Memorial Day, so once again we'll see clouds and sun. Isolated showers are on the table for Memorial Day with a similar scenario on the docket. The farther south you live, and especially into Maryland, shower chances will be higher. The upper-low lingers as the surface low departs early next week. This keeps the partly cloudy conditions around Tuesday into Wednesday but the shower chances diminish. With a more NE flow developing through Tuesday, temps drop off back into the middle 70s which is a touch below average. Some ridging develops Thursday into Friday and that brings a big boost to our temps. Highs surge back close to 90 on Thursday with temps topping out in the lower 90s by our Friyay! A cold front then looks to drop in late Friday into Saturday and this could bring isolated showers and thunderstorms. Chances aren't looking too impressive right now but they are looking slightly higher on Saturday. It's something we'll be watching so be sure to stay tuned for the latest. Temps drop closer to average behind that front with afternoon temps back around 80 Sunday. The roller-coaster ride continues as we progress into early next week with highs spiking back into the middle and upper 80s. We tap into the warmth Monday and Tuesday ahead of yet another cold front. This one is slated to arrive on Wednesday, bringing our next chance for showers and thunderstorms.Have a great night!-T.J.
