Man in a wheelchair dies after falling off dock at Iowa state park

A man in a wheelchair died after falling off a dock in Rock Creek State Park on Sunday.

Larry D. Conner, 76, of Marshalltown, was fishing with another person when he fell into the water, according to a news release from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. The second man called for help and got him out of the water, while a third party heard the man yelling for help and called 911.

Conner was unresponsive when a Iowa Department of Natural Resources officer arrived on scene. Medical intervention was unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened at about 12:04 a.m. Sunday near the west side boat ramp. Officials are continuing to investigate, including conducting an autopsy.
