Marshall Public Library to host devotional book signing

Growing the Fruit of the Spirit: 100 Devotions for Farm Families by Beth Gormong and Susan Hayhurst

MARSHALL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) —  Two Hoosier farm owners have written a farm life devotional and are coming to the Marshall Public Library for a book signing.

Growing up as city folk, Beth Gormong and Susan Hayhurst have released their new farm life devotional, Growing the Fruit of the Spirit: 100 Devotions for Farm Families. The signing will take place on June 21 at 10:00 a.m. CST.

The book includes the many adventures and mishaps in Hayhurst and Gormong’s lives while also documenting parts of their culture shock and adaptation from city life to life on the farm.

The authors were inspired by the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit in Christianity and included scripture, prayers, stories of farm life, and inspiring messages. Gormong and Hayhurst individually penned 50 of the 100 devotions.

The authors learned quickly that farm life is a unique experience. Both the Gormong and Hayhurst families have led fourth-generation row crop operations, while the Hayhursts also maintain a Polled Hereford cattle herd.

In addition to Growing the Fruit of the Spirit: 100 Devotions for Farm Families, Gormong has also co-authored two women’s devotionals, Hello, Beautiful! Finally Love Yourself Just as You Are, and Yes, You Can! Overcoming Crises with God’s Help, with Jeanette Levellie. Hayhurst is a writer for agriculture magazines, including her farm wife’s monthly humor column, “Hayhurst’s Hayloft,” published in Indiana Prairie Farmer.

Books may be purchased at the library through the authors and on Amazon and Kindle. For more specific information about the authors, visit Beth Gormong’s website and Susan Hayhursts’s website.
