A conservation group and other activists are looking to create a new public park in Fairview with hiking and biking trails. The effort to buy the former Camp Woodson east of Fairview and convert it to a public park has gotten a boost from the state with a $200,000 development grant formally accepted by the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners April 16.

Jewelry thief who targeted older women in NC sentenced
ARDEN, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said a man has been sentenced to prison after a series of break-ins in western North Carolina. Randall Paul Penland Jr., 47, is accused of targeting the homes of older women in the Arden and Fairview communities, breaking in when they weren’t home, and stealing jewelry.
