'This is getting bad' Swannanoa homeowner grapples with property-damaging bear
SWANNANOA, N.C. (WLOS) — The views in Swannanoa's Bee Tree community are breathtaking but in the heart of bear country, one homeowner is battling a nuisance bear that’s taking her breath away. “This is getting bad because it’s starting to damage my property,” said Pamela Fountain.

In an earlier era, one of the most respected mothers in the upper Swannanoa Valley was Elsie Elmina Cordell Burnett (1860-1943), pictured above, left, in a rare 1880’s portrait. Elsie was the wife of William Henry “Champ” Burnett (1850-1933), and together they built one of the most prominent homes in the upper North Fork Valley.
