Marine boys salvage series split with Truckers

MARINETTE — The Marinette High School baseball team split a North Eastern Conference doubleheader against Clintonville on Tuesday at Pedersen Ball Park.

Marinette took game one by a score of 5-1 before the Truckers slugged their way to a14-8 decision in the nightcap.

Game one saw the Marines rally back from a one-run deficit with a three-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning before plating a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Justin Kruse was nearly untouchable on the mound in game one, spinning seven innings of two-hit ball while issuing just one walk and striking out six.

Wyatt Stauss blasted a home run as part of a two-for-four outing at the plate.

Ethan Doubek collected a pair of base knocks, both of them doubles, as part of Marinette’s seven-hit performance.

Marinette looked poised to make game two a runaway early after hanging seven runs on the Truckers in the top of the second, but Clintonville responded with a five-run fifth inning to seize a two-run advantage that grew to six after a four-run bottom of the sixth.

Wyatt Hanson had two RBIs for the Marines in game two.

Levi Hanson was the losing pitcher after giving up six hits and eight runs, three of which were earned, in three-and-one-third innings of work. He struck out four and walked four.
