This weekend, Agave Festival Marfa returns for a sixth year, bringing renowned scholars and artists from throughout the borderlands to the Big Bend. This year’s line-up includes Dr. Kelly Lytle Hernández, a 2019 MacArthur Genius and professor of History, African American Studies, and Urban Planning at UCLA. She’ll be reading from her recent book, “Bad Mexicans: Race, Empire, and Revolution in the Borderlands,” which tells the story of the magonistas, a group of migrant rebels who helped to incite the Mexican Revolution from inside the U.S.

Two drivers arrested for illegal smuggling of livestock in Presidio County
PRESIDIO COUNTY, Texas — Two livestock trailers carrying livestock from Mexico were detained by Presidio County Sheriff Deputies on May 25. The two drivers were arrested by federal officials and referred to Homeland Security Investigations for processing. The Presidio County Sheriff's Office have been dealing with more cases recently about smuggling illegal livestock in Presidio County.

Terlingua man dies in Brewster County crash
BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) - According to DPS, John Bainbridge Ryan,75, has died after a crash 44 miles south of Alpine. Ryan was driving south on SH 118 in a curve when it swerved into the north lane for unknown reasons and hit a vehicle going north. Ryan’s passenger was taken to a hospital in Odessa where he is said to be in serious condition. The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

ALPINE, Texas — A California man pleaded guilty in a federal court in Alpine Wednesday to charges related to drug trafficking. Adrian Arturo Solis, 30, of Sylmar, California, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession of firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
