New Hartford Concert Band announces 2024 concert season
NEW HARTFORD — The New Hartford Concert Band has announced its summer concert schedule. The band was formed in 1913 by Francis A. Meyers and has grown over the past 100 years, with members from New Hartford, Whitesboro, Utica, Dolgeville, Little Falls, New York Mills, and even Syracuse and Albany. It is currently under the direction of Michael DiMeo, a retired New Hartford band director.
Rome Dollars for Scholars helps dozens pursue college dreams
ROME — The Rome Dollars for Scholars organization recently presented its 40th annual award ceremony at the Beeches Manor with 73 Rome Free Academy seniors and three New York State School for the Deaf seniors receiving scholarships. Eight continuing scholarships were also acknowledged. A total of $91,350 was distributed by the chapter. Scholarships ranging from $500-$3000 were given to students planning on attending technical schools or college.
New Hartford native heading to PWHL
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A New Hartford native is heading to bigger things on the hockey rink, along with several of her Colgate classmates. Defender Sydney Bard was drafted in the fourth round of the PWHL Draft, held on Monday, June 10 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was the 22nd pick overall to PWHL Boston.
Road work prompts travel advisory for Route 5S in Ilion
ILION — The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that beginning Thursday, June 13, Route 5S westbound will be closed to traffic from Route 28 and East Main Street in Mohawk to the intersection of Route 5S and Route 51 in Ilion between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to facilitate paving operations. The daily lane closures are expected to last approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
