JWP volleyball defeats Maple River before traveling to compete in Tri-City United Tournament
Thursday night, the JWP volleyball team hosted the Maple River Eagles. Despite dropping the second set, the Bulldogs rebounded to earn a 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 25-18, 25-14) victory, improving to 3-6 on the season. Brielle Bure led the team with 20 digs as well as an ace and her digs put her over 500 in her varsity career. Fourth-quarter touchdown sinks Buccaneers
Like many of their games in recent years, the latest football clash between the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers and the Maple River Eagles was decided by a thin margin. Maple River spoiled BEA’s homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 22, with a fourth quarter touchdown and extra point kick to go home with a 7-6 victory.

Karate Chop Bullying seminar event to be held at Mankato YMCA
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - It’s time to wax on and wax off, as Greater Mankato Area United Way is taking a page out of “The Karate Kid” playbook to combat bullying. The local non-profit is teaming up with Kato Karate to host a free Karate Chop Bullying seminar on Monday.
Prep sports: East soccer blanks New Prague
MANKATO — Ashley Fischer made five saves to lead Mankato East to a 4-0 victory over New Prague in a nonconference girls soccer match Monday at Thomas O. Anderson field. Kaylie Geraets had a goal and assist for the Cougars, while Jenna Starkey, Abby Moule and Addy Lurken each scored a goal. Amber Reuter had two assists, and Taylor Schilling had one.

The Central/Mayer Lutheran/Sibley East girls soccer team played Mankato Loyola Sept. 23 at home and earned a win. “We discovered our offense and put goals on the board in a 4-0 victory,” said coach Brian Lundgren. Chanhassen survives Mankato West, weather delay to move to 5-0
Not even a weather delay and a stout defense could stop Chanhassen on the night of Sept. 29. The Class 5A No. 2 Storm survived the roughly hour-and-a-half delay as well as the Class 5A No. 1 Mankato West defense that was allowing just 8.5 points per game, coming away with a 21-14 win. The victory not only was key in regular season rankings, district standings and section 2AAAAA seeding but also for “getting the monkey off their back.”

VALLEY CITY – Three Vikings recorded double-figure kills as Valley City State took a 3-1 win over Waldorf Saturday at home by final set scores of 25-12, 27-25, 25-11 and 25-16. Bailey Nelson paced the offense with 15 kills while Danielle Hagler added 14 and Mardi Scutchings posted 11. The trio also posted three assisted blocks apiece for the Vikings.
Maple River extends their win streak defeating River Valley
MAPLETON, Minn. (KEYC) - The Maple River girls tennis team improves to 13-1 on the season after defeating River Valley 5-2 Thursday night. Maple River plays next Saturday, September 30th against St. James Area at St. James at 9:00 a.m.
#9 Ell-Saline shuts out Mankato-Rock Hills 47-0
#9 Ell-Saline would travel to Mankato on Friday night to take on the Rock Hills Grizzlies for week 5 of the 2023 season. Ell-Saline came into the matchup with a 3-1 season record and a 1-0 record in district play. The Grizzlies came into the game 2-2 and were 0-1 in district play. It was all Ell-Saline as they would finish the game at halftime and cruise to a 47-0 victory.
