PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — It took about 20 minutes Tuesday night for Peoria firefighters to corral a fire at a two-story vacant apartment building on the East Bluff. Members of the Peoria Fire Department were called to the 1200 block of East Republic Street at about 6:15 p.m. on a report of a house fire. That’s a few blocks from Glen Oak Park.

Peoria Public Schools’ teacher retention rate grew 11% since 2019
PEORIA (25News Now) - Behind every good student is a great teacher, and Peoria Public Schools’ efforts to keep teachers in their classrooms are apparently working. For the 2022-2023 school year, 88% of teachers returned the following year to teach. It’s 11% higher than the 2019 retention rate of 77%.

East Bluff home damaged by fire during remodeling
PEORIA (25News Now) - A home being remodeled in Peoria’s East Bluff was damaged by fire Tuesday evening and faces partial demolition. Peoria firefighters say they saw heavy smoke and flames showing from the front of the two-story home in the 1200 block of East Republic Street, near Glen Oak Park, but it took only about 20 minutes for crews to get control of the fire.

Grand jury indicts Peoria man for brutal stabbing of his cousin
PEORIA (25News Now) - A Peoria man has been indicted for allegedly trying to kill his cousin by brutally stabbing him last month. The grand jury found prosecutors have enough evidence to put Korie Neltner, 36, on trial on accusations he used a knife to cut open his cousin’s stomach from his groin to scrotum, according to an earlier news release from prosecutors.
