'A great dad': Loved ones mourn Manteca father killed in Monday shooting
Loved ones of Mekhi Richardson, 21, gathered on Mono Street in Manteca on Friday to honor the young father who was shot and killed earlier this week.
“He was a great dad and just overall a loving person,” said Kylee Quezada, who is the mother of Richardson’s son. “It has been really hard.”
Richardson was shot Monday. The Manteca Police Department is still investigating but announced two people have been charged in connection with his death.
His family is still trying to process how this happened. Derio Chavis described his cousin as a funny, athletic young man who was a loving father to his child.

“If you know him, just show your support,” Chavis said. “You don’t have to be here every single day but just come out every once in a while, make sure the family is uplifted and that everybody is in your prayers.”
A spokesperson for the Manteca Police Department said that investigators are still working to connect with individuals who witnessed the shooting, who have photos or video related to the case or have additional information to share.
Quezada simply asked for prayers.
“Just keep us in your thoughts and prayers that's really it. Honestly, nothing can bring him back,” she said.
