Shangri-La Memorial Park holds grand opening
Shangri-La Memorial Park at 7 Shangri-la Boulevard will have a grant opening on Saturday, May 25 from 12 to 3 p.m. This will be a potluck event, with hamburgers and hotdogs already provided. Organizers have requested that attendees bring side dishes such as potato salads, pasta salads, chicken wings, meatballs, chips and cupcakes, as well as plastic cutlery, napkins and wet wipes.
Pine Hill hosts first play
With the help of the Westwood Recreation Department, Pine Hill held the school's first play production, "Annie", on April 26th in its brand new Cafetorium. Directed by Robert Brennan ’14 and choreographed by Allyson Hannon ‘18, many of the school's 4th and 5th graders performed in this adaptation of the beloved classic. Rehearsing twice a week for many months, the students were excited to show off the finished product. And they did not disappoint! The time and effort put in by all quickly became apparent. Family and friends watched in awe as these performers sang familiar tunes like "It's the Hard-Knock Life", “Easy Street”, “Maybe” and "Little Girls" with the poise and grace of professionals.
Man dies after canoe with child passengers capsizes in Halifax
HALIFAX, MASS. (WHDH) - Authorities are investigating after a man died in an apparent drowning in Halifax on Sunday after the boat he was in capsized, officials said. Crews responding to a report of a capsized canoe with several people in the water around 11 a.m. determined one adult and two children had exited the water safely and a second adult was missing below the water’s surface, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
Two-vehicle crash slows traffic near Salty the Seahorse, no injuries
MATTAPOISETT — A two-vehicle collision May 15 near Mattapoisett’s Salty the Seahorse landmark briefly slowed traffic in the town’s busiest intersection. Two pickup trucks crashed within the intersection of North Street and Route 6 Wednesday afternoon. Neither of the two people involved suffered injuries, according to Mattapoisett Fire Chief Andrew Murray.

Opinion: On the stretch building code in Marion
At the last Select Board meeting, it was standing room only. The topic was the “stretch” building code which qualifies Marion as a Green Community. It was approved some years ago and has benefited Marion through a series of grants from the state. I am not an expert on the grant aspect of the code, but there were some well-respected members of the community who spoke eloquently on the subject. Many people spoke, all good friends and neighbors.
