Clarendon continues to grow

In the upcoming years, Manning will welcome a new apartment complex and an additional subdivision in Clarendon County.

On Tuesday night, a civil engineer, Tim Harris, represented Christopher Whitener at the Clarendon County Planning Commission meeting. A zoning certification request was made by Whitener of Weldon Pointe Apartments for the construction of a 48-unit multifamily apartment complex on a 5.60-acre plot of land located at 1431 Meadow Brooks Drive in Manning. General commercial properties comprise most of the area; however, Whitener wants to add a residential-use zoning certification.

According to him, the construction project would be time efficient and involve two buildings, a pool, and a clubhouse. The planning commission has approved the request for multifamily residential zoning.

However, the ordinance still requires the county council’s approval, and they are not required to support the idea.

Regarding requests that would bring more people to the area, the county has been beautifying the neighborhood with new businesses and residential communities.

Citizens of Clarendon County will also have a new place to visit for their hair needs. The commission has given unanimous approval for a metal building to be constructed for a new hair salon. Jackie Green has successfully obtained zoning certification to allow a commercial hair salon next to a pre-existing manufactured home located at 2366 Olanta Highway, near Turbeville. According to Green, the building is new, and there is already a plan for placement on the property. The salon will sit on 11.7 acres of land. The official name and opening date have yet to be released.
