One dead, 4 hurt in NYC car crash; driver in tears as he’s cuffed by cops

A car struck multiple people in Manhattan on Sunday night, killing one man and injuring at least four others, police and sources said.

The crash took place near the intersection of East 21st Street and Third Avenue in Gramercy at around 7:30 p.m., according to law enforcement sources.

Two men and two women were hospitalized when the car struck them in the busy neighborhood.

A 23-year-old man in grave condition was also rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he died of his injuries, sources said.

Police took the operator of the vehicle into custody at the scene, cops said.

Two e-bikes were seen crushed near a gray sedan after the vehicle barreled onto the sidewalk.

First responders worked to safely dismantle the batteries from the destroyed e-bikes to prevent any explosions, according to the Villager.

Photos from the chaotic scene show one woman on the ground being helped into a neck brace by paramedics and another woman with an injured leg.

Paramedics were also seen wheeling a person in a stretcher to an ambulance.

Another photo showed the driver detained by police.

The man was in handcuffs with his head bowed and he appeared to be in tears.

No charges were filed on Sunday night in relation to the crash, police said.

The crash took place near a police academy that has been designated as a migrant shelter at 235 E. 20th St.
