NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Manhattan Supreme Court jury convicted a 40-year-old man of murdering a 29-year-old delivery worker two years ago when he refused to hand over his e-bike, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Douglas Young fatally shot Francisco Villalva Vitinio on March 29, 2021 at Poor Richard’s Playground in East Harlem.

The delivery worker entered the park just before 10:30 p.m. for a rest between deliveries for DoorDash.

When he refused to give Young his e-bike, he shot him. Young was later identified via surveillance video.

“Deliveristas are essential workers who keep our city running. They should not have to fear for their lives while on the job,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. “We will not tolerate this type of senseless gun violence against hardworking New Yorkers, and I thank our prosecutors for achieving this strong conviction.”

He was convicted of murder, robbery and weapon possession. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 6.
