MANCHESTER, N.H. — Authorities have launched an investigation following an officer-involved shooting in Manchester, New Hampshire, that left a man dead early Friday morning.
Officers responding to a 911 call for a report of a person who was armed with a firearm at 1143 Mammoth Road just before 3:30 a.m. encountered the individual in question outside of a home at an apartment complex and opened fire, according to New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella. Officials say that four officers fired their guns at the suspect and one additional officer discharged a less-lethal munition.
“Manchester police officers did shoot and ultimately kill that individual,” New Hampshire Senior Assistant Attorney General Scott Chase told Boston 25.
The deceased man has been identified as 26-year-old Alex Naone of Hooksett, New Hampshire. The cause of death was determined to be gunshot wounds to Naone’s chest and abdomen, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Chase noted that life-saving measures were attempted, but the armed resident died from his injuries.
Video from the scene showed a large section of the complex roped off with yellow police tape, a slew of evidence markers scattered around on the ground, and a number of officers scouring the grounds.
No officers or other residents were injured in the incident and authorities say there is no threat to the public.
“Pursuant to protocol, the names of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interviews,” Formella’s office added. “The initial responding officers had body-worn cameras.”
Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg added, “We’re fully cooperating in this investigation with the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office...We’re compassionate to the fact that a young man just lost his life. I’m also focused on the fact that my officers were involved in this shooting and I’m worried about their mental health as well.”
The officer-involved shooting marks the third in Manchester in the last year.
When asked about the shootings, Aldenberg said he “wasn’t concerned with the actions” of his officers in the two previous incidents.
The exact circumstances surrounding Friday’s incident remain under investigation. Additional details are expected to be released after the autopsy is completed.
