The Prince William Board of County Supervisors on Tuesday allocated funding to advance a proposed multimillion dollar indoor athletics facility. The facility, which could be the largest of its kind in Northern Virginia, would feature an indoor pool, a hydraulic running track and hard-surface courts. It’s projected to cost more than $100 million at a proposed location of 13505 Telegraph Road in Woodbridge along the Interstate 95 corridor.

The host Madison Warhawks defeated the Westfield Bulldogs, 31-7, in Vienna the afternoon of Nov. 25 in the championship game of the 6D North Region football tournament. George Mason women's lacrosse has announced their 2024 schedule, which includes eight home games and one neutral site game at the St. James in Springfield, Virginia. The Patriots will face teams from the CAA, Big South, Patriot, MAC, and NEC in their non-conference matchups. The Atlantic 10 conference play will begin with a game against 2023 conference runner-up Massachusetts. The regular season will conclude with Senior Day and the Pride Game against Saint Joseph's. The Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Tournament will be held in Pittsburgh from May 2-5.

Pretty much, two different boys basketball teams will exist for the Madison Warhawks this season. There is the current squad that will play without four or five of its top players for the first few games. Two are injured and three others are members of the school’s varsity football team, which is still involved in the state playoffs.

South Lakes High School brought back a roller skating and blading unit for 9th and 10th grade P.E. this year. The skating took place in the school’s gym where students learn to skate. South Lakes began including the skating unit into the curriculum 8 years ago in partnership with Skatetime. The skating unit is offered every two years. Students pay $10 to participate with parental permission.

The Woodbridge varsity football team got off to a hot start in last Saturday’s state semifinal road contest against Archmere, scoring on each of their first two offensive plays of the game. A defensive stand by the Raiders late in the first half kept the score at 22-22 going into half-time, but the Auks scored 24 points in the second half to advance to the state championship with a 56-28 win.

Each of the past two seasons, Patriot has moved a step closer toward a state boys basketball title. In 2022, in the state semifinals, the Pioneers lost to Battlefield 55-54 when Bryce Hammersley converted a 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining.
