NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A bright meteor spotted Saturday night in Connecticut’s sky traveled through the atmosphere at 38,000 mph, NASA has confirmed.

The meteor was spotted at about 9 p.m. and was seen by more than a hundred people across multiple states.

The fireball was first seen 50 miles above Mamaroneck, New York. It disintegrated 30 miles above Norven Green State Forest in New Jersey after traveling northeast for 37 miles.

“It took me by surprise how bright and apparent it was,” a report from Fairfield reads. “It was partly cloudy outside, but the moon was also visible.”

A report to the American Meteor Society from a man in East Haven details that the meteor appeared green and then flashed orange. A report from Northford states that it was light blue and white.

The meteor was visible for about three seconds. A video shows it appearing to skip in and out of clouds.
