Daniel Freitag, a four-star combo guard in the class of 2024, has committed to Wisconsin, he told On3.

The 6-foot-3 junior is a native of Bloomington, Minnesota but will play his senior year at Castaic (Calif.) SoCal Academy. He chose the Badgers over Notre Dame, Minnesota, Virginia, and Baylor.

Freitag went in-depth on his commitment to Wisconsin with On3.

“Wisconsin wanted me first,” Freitag said. “Wisconsin was the first college to offer me a scholarship. I keep track of things like that. Wisconsin also has not offered any point guards in the 2024 class or surrounding classes to show me how much they value me. I believe Wisconsin made it clear that they saw the future of the program being with me leading the way.”

What type of player are the Badgers getting in Daniel Freitag, in his own words?

“Wisconsin is getting someone that will do whatever it takes to win,” he says. “The first day I’m there I plan to do my best to lead as much as possible. Coach Gard is getting someone who is coachable and can take initiative from day one.”

Freitag has a message for Wisconsin fans.

“I hope Badger fans are as excited for my commitment as I am! I look forward to competing and I hope they enjoy watching me do so.”

Freitag is the No. 79 overall prospect and No. 7 combo guard in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 1 player in the state of Minnesota.

Along with being a top-100 basketball recruit, Freitag is also being recruited for football. On the field, he’s earned scholarships from the likes of Notre Dame, Minnesota, Kansas State, and of course, Wisconsin. However, Freitag has decided to not pursue pursue football at the college level and will devote all his focus onto basketball at the University of Wisconsin.
