MADISON, Wis. -- A man who shot at Madison police officers while trying to escape arrest early last year was sentenced to 35 years in prison Thursday, according to online court records.

Syngleton Smith-Harston was found guilty of attempted homicide -- one of a dozen charges filed against him -- during a trial in January of this year.

While each of Smith-Harston's charges carry an individual sentence, all were ordered to be served concurrently with each other, meaning Smith-Harston will serve time for only the 35-year sentence because it's the longest.

After his release, Smith-Harston will also face 20 years of extended supervision. He is not eligible for early release from prison, per online court records.

At trial, prosecutors argued the 24-year-old shot at two officers with the Madison Police Department while he tried to escape arrest after jumping off of an apartment balcony.

The two officers returned fire and hit Smith-Harston multiple times.

Smith-Harston's co-defendant Cameron Smith was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison in early January after pleading guilty to two counts of armed robbery stemming from the robbery that led to MPD trying to arrest the duo prior to the shooting.
